Reform, not a dream but a rational prospect, had become the spirit of the age; it also provides the theme for this remarkable history of the reigns of Henry, Edward and Mary.In his eloquent narrative, Professor Elton gives a new dimension to the familiar events and personalities of the period, probing the motives of individuals and the beliefs of the people as a whole.
